Honduras Vacations Are Suitable For Many Different Types Of Travelers

Honduras Vacations
Honduras is a vibrant country, brimming with clear turquoise waters, pristine beaches, lush jungles, breathtaking mountains, challenging rivers, and fascinating ancient ruins. It is also a diver’s heaven.

Most visitors pass through its capital. Tegucigalpa welcomes visitors with a relaxed ambience. Just a couple of hours by bus, the mountain towns of Santa Lucia and Valle de Angeles with their slow pace, natural beauty and low profile tourism make it appealing to those who prefer getting off the beaten path.

Many travelers head straight to the western highlands and the Mayan ruins of Copan. The journey here may be broken into several stops along the way;Comayagua and Santa Rosa de Copan. The biosphere reserve of the Rio Platano in Mosquitia is an uninhabited virgin tropical rainforest, definitely off the beaten track. Finally the Bay Islandsoffers plenty of pristine beaches, world-class snorkelling and a rich cultural mix.

Honduras vacations are suitable for many different types of travelers. Any Honduras travel guide will tell you to visit the Mayan site of Copan, the Caribbean shores of the Bay Islands, or the pristine rain forests of the Mosquito Coast. It is possible to do all this and more if you have a week or two in the small country. But no Honduras travel guide could possibly exhaust all the attractions the country has to offer.

For adventure travel Honduras is one the best places in the world. Tour groups in La Ceiba and elsewhere will organize white water rafting tours, jungle hikes, or mountain bike trips through the rainforests. Rio Platano Biosphere Reserve and other national parks preserve the largest pristine rainforest north of the Amazon in Brazil.

If you are interested in history and culture, Honduras vacations have much to offer. Colonial towns like Santa Rosa de Copan preserve buildings from when Central America was part of a vast Spanish empire. The Mayan ruins at Copan are well-preserved remnants of an even older, pre-Columbian culture.

The keystone of Honduras tourism is Roatan Island, the largest of the Bay Islands off the Caribbean coast of the country. Roatan is an unspoiled island paradise. In recent years it has become a regular stop-off on western Caribbean cruises and a favored destination for Honduras vacations.

Roatan and the other Bay Islands - Utila, Guanaja, and the tiny Cayos Cochinos - are surrounded by one of the largest living coral reefs in the world, home to a host of colorful fish and plant species. It is therefore no surprise that diving and snorkeling are popular activities in Honduras. Each Honduras travel guide lists hundreds of underwater sites for beginners and expert divers to explore.

Honduras is a country of lowlands and fertile valleys and, indeed, La Ceiba (a major banana port) even looks to tourism as a future major industry. There are good hotels and beaches, and an international airport to boot. Trujillo itself was once a thriving port, with a fascinating pirate history and superb tropical beaches.

Hurricane Mitch devastated much of the country in 1998 but an international effort quickly rebuilt much of the country's infrastructure. However, the economy is still very weak. Many people live in poverty and crime levels and drug trafficking have soared.

Pico Bonito National Park is situated on Nombre de Dios which can be found on Honduras' north coast. It is said to be the least traveled national park in the country, leaving its inherent characteristics in present even until now. There are a number of trails available and they only take about three hours to be completed. Being abundant in rivers, waterfalls, and wildlife, you will surely have a gentle and relaxed walk in Pico Bonito National Park.

Celaque National Park is where Pico Celaque, Honduras' highest pinnacle, is located. Aside from that, you will also find the most amazing cloud forest in this part of the country. It is where moist grounds, refreshing air, orchids, and vines exist all together and it can be reached through the town of Gracias. The hike might be a little tough than usual but atop the mountain are the pleasing views of waterfalls and wooded canyon. Worry not as it is not one of the boring nor exhausting hikes because there are existing residents in Celaque unlike in the other parks. These people plant and harvest potatoes, coffee, corn, beans, and even sugar cane!

The Mosquito Coast lies in Honduras' east side and is named after the native Miskito Indians. This is well known for ecotourism and the most preferable way to take to reach this place is through Palacios Honduras. Forests, beaches, swamps - Mosquito Coast is, without a doubt, one of the best places for a rough country voyage! An 8-hour day tour is just enough for adventurers to make the most out of this remote yet exciting place.
